The BME Department at the University of Minnesota seeks to:
Deliver innovative educational programs of the highest quality at all degree levels

The Department is an academic unit of the College of Science and Engineering. It serves to administer biomedical engineering degree programs at all levels (Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral programs). While research possibilities among the graduate faculty span the full spectrum of biomedical engineering, the Department has established interests in cardiovascular, neural, and cell engineering and seeks to focus growth and excellence in these research areas as it grows. Since 2005-2006, when the data for the most recent NRC rankings were collected, the department’s full-time faculty size has increased from 6 to 16, and the faculty’s research expenditures and publications per year have increased more than 100%. These increases reflect the rapid growth of our research programs in terms of size and impact.

Our department is uniquely located on the University campus at the intersection of the College of Science and Engineering and the Academic Health Center, directly adjacent to a teaching hospital.
