The department requires students in the undergraduate program to:
Earn a grade of “C” or better in each course that is to be counted toward the degree requirements.
Take courses that will satisfy major requirements for a letter grade, A-F (pass/fail or S-N courses will not fulfill major requirements).
Maintain an overall GPA of 2.000 to graduate.
For all other grade and transcript information, please refer to the U’s grading policy.
"A student will be placed on probation (and will remain on probation) if either the term or the cumulative GPA is below 2.000. A student on probation will have a hold placed on his or her record and must see an adviser in order to register."
(excerpted from the U's policy on academic probation and suspension)
For information and instructions on having the hold removed, see the College of Science and Engineering's probation and suspension procedures.
Any exceptions to the curriculum must be approved in writing by the Director of Undergraduate Studies. Once written approval is obtained, please forward the documentation to the Undergraduate Program Assistant and Advisor (7-105 Hasselmo Hall, bmedus@umn.edu) to ensure prompt and accurate processing.
