Technical Electives

Technical Electives are courses offered in the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) in engineering, physical sciences, and mathematics.** Some non-CSE courses with content predominantly in engineering, physics, and/or math have also been approved as Technical Electives.

Because there are so many courses at the University that satisfy this requirement, what follows is not an exhaustive list by any means, but a representative sample of courses that have been deemed valuable for students in the past several years.

Students wishing to have additional courses outside of CSE approved for this requirement should email bmengp@umn.edu with the course number, title, and course description or syllabus. New courses will be added to this list as they are approved by the Director of Graduate Studies.

In some cases the Director of Graduate Studies may approve one 4000-level course to be counted toward the BME graduate degree requirements. DGS approval must be obtained before any 4000-level CSE course may be counted toward the Technical Elective requirement.
