The department offers a combined degree program that allows students to complete both a Bachelor's and Master's-Plan B degree in a total of five years. It is exclusively available to students in the Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Program here at the University of Minnesota.
Please click here for more information on the BBmE/MS program structure and requirements.
The combined degree program offers several advantages:
Having a Master's degree will make graduates more competitive for higher-paying positions in industrial design.
Students can work toward their undergraduate and graduate degrees simultaneously, which means that they can finish the Master's degree and enter the job market a full year earlier than students in conventional two-year Master's programs.
Students save money because they are able to complete graduate credits at the undergraduate tuition rate during their senior year.
Only current students in the Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Program at the University of Minnesota are eligible to apply for this program. (Students from other programs or universities should visit the Graduate Application Information page for instructions on how to apply for our MS and PhD programs.)
Students apply after the spring semester of their third year, by which time they must have completed ALL of the sophomore- and junior-level BMEn coursework (BMEn 2101, 2401, 2501, 3001, 3101, 3201, 3301, 3401). Students who have not completed these eight courses are not eligible to apply.
Admission will be based solely on the BMEn GPA (that is, the GPA of the eight required BMEn courses listed above). The preferred BMEn GPA is 3.6 or higher. Applicants with a lower GPA may still apply, but admission is contingent on available space in the program.
