The University of Minnesota’s Medical Devices Center (part of the Institute for Engineering in Medicine), the College of Science and Engineering, and the Academic Health Center presents the 14th Annual Design of Medical Devices (DMD) Conference, April 13-16.

The DMD Conference was created in 2001 to enhance collaboration between academia and industry, to promote policy and educational initiatives as they relate to medical device design, and to help support the University of Minnesota’s Medical Devices Graduate Fellowship Program. DMD is the world's largest medical device conference spanning 4 days with attendance reaching over 1,100 participants. Over the years, this forum, with its unique position in the middle of one of the most significant medical device communities in the world, has provided invaluable insight and leadership in promoting the future of this evolving industry. The majority of attendees hold positions within non-profit organizations, small start-ups, corporations, academia, legal professionals, consultants, students, MD’s and PhD’s.

The 2015 DMD Conference Thursday Symposium, “Medical Device Innovation in the Far East,” will offer a unique perspective on the booming growth of the medical device industry in China, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan. The symposium will begin with a networking breakfast, sponsored by the Minnesota Trade Office, immediately followed by two sessions. The networking breakfast will give attendees an opportunity to make connections with Asian Conference sponsors, panelists and attendees. The first session will include government representatives from the listed countries, discussing issues related to their country’s needs, trends in med tech, financial backing and restraints and their five year plan.

In the second session, senior management representatives from US medical device companies will have a conversation about how the Far East has and will continue to impact strategic investments by US med tech companies. The panel will discuss plans for expansion in the Far East, trends in the med tech industry and will respond to comments and questions from the first session. The format will be a moderated discussion including opportunities for questions from the audience.  A lunch will conclude the day with a keynote presentation by a US med tech industry executive.

One of the missions of the Design of Medical Devices Conference is to facilitate collaboration between academia and industry. DMD Sponsors will interact with leaders from academia and industry on key policy and research issues, meet with prospective employees, clients and University of Minnesota faculty and network with other sponsors to develop professional relationships beneficial to your company. The DMD conference is located in one of the premiere medical device communities in the world. To learn more about the 39 different sponsors this year, Please visit http://www.dmd.umn.edu/sponsors.html.

The 2015 DMD Conference Program will provide attendees knowledge of current trends, industry changes and cutting edge news from the medical device community. More information on the Design of Medical Devices Conference can be found at www.dmd.umn.edu.
